How Streak keeps month-end close on schedule as a mature SaaS company
How AG Accounting runs month-end close, multi-account reconciliation, payroll accounting, and continuous transaction review for Streak, a San Francisco SaaS company.
Streak builds a CRM that works inside Gmail, helping sales, support, hiring, and deal teams run their pipelines where they already work. It is a Y Combinator-backed SaaS company headquartered in San Francisco, with years of operating history, a distributed team, and the accounting complexity that comes with both. AG Accounting runs the accounting function so the Streak team can stay focused on the product.
The challenge: accounting complexity after the startup phase
Most startup accounting advice is written for companies in their first two years. The harder problem arrives later, after the company has built a customer base, accumulated ledger history, and added systems over time.
Subscription revenue is continuous, not periodic. Recurring revenue through Stripe means payments, refunds, disputes, and settlement timing arriving every day. Reconciliation becomes an ongoing process rather than a month-end task.
A chart of accounts ages. Long-running companies accumulate duplicate accounts, inactive parent accounts, and costs that have drifted into the wrong category. If nobody maintains the structure, the issue eventually appears in a report someone is relying on.
Expenses are distributed across the team. Multiple corporate-card programs, providers, cardholders, statement cycles, and posting conventions each need their own reconciliation. Small errors in any one of them can compound.
Payroll carries real detail. A full-time team with benefits, retirement contributions, commuter programs, and annual compensation cycles produces a payroll ledger with many moving parts. Unusual months need to be documented, not simply accepted.
Volume itself is not the hard part. Attention is. An accounting function can keep up mechanically while missing a charge in the wrong account, a vendor whose pricing changed, or a month that looks normal but is not. Processing the ledger and reading it are different jobs.
Our approach: continuous review with a disciplined close
AG Accounting runs Streak’s accounting stack in QuickBooks Online with controller-level review built into the ongoing workflow.
Month-end close on schedule. We reconcile each account, post the required entries, and deliver clean financials while the numbers can still inform decisions.
Continuous exception review instead of after-the-fact sampling. Transactions are reviewed as they land for duplicate vendor-and-amount pairs, charges outside a vendor’s normal range, unmapped vendors, and potential personal-use patterns on corporate cards. Exceptions reach a human reviewer, where accounting judgment is most useful.
Multi-account bank and card reconciliation. Every bank, merchant, and card account is reconciled independently each month, including transaction-date versus posting-date differences and payment-processor settlement timing.
Payroll accounting at employee-level detail. Compensation posts by individual, with benefits, retirement, and payroll-tax accruals maintained separately. Annual cycles and true-ups are documented so an unusual month reads as explained rather than alarming.
Equity and cap-table accounting. Financing instruments and employee equity are tracked in the general ledger and reconciled to the cap table, so the books and equity record agree.
Multi-entity and cross-border coordination. We maintain the accounting for Streak’s corporate structure and coordinate with the company’s tax advisors on documentation, so structural items are handled in the period they occur rather than reconstructed later.
Chart of accounts maintained as infrastructure. We keep vendor mappings current, retire duplicates, and maintain consistent cost classification rather than waiting for the account structure to break a report.
Nothing posts without approval. Every entry is described in plain language and confirmed before it is written. Corrections are voided and reissued rather than deleted, with supporting memos retained on the transaction. The audit trail survives every decision.
The result: financials the team can use
Books close on schedule, every month. Review work runs continuously, so the close finishes while the numbers are still decision-grade.
Issues surface in-period. Coding drift, unusual charges, and unmapped vendors are caught in the month they occur instead of at year-end, when fixing them costs more and explains less.
A general ledger a CPA can follow. Corrections carry transaction-level memos and nothing is deleted. An audit, diligence request, or new tax preparer begins from a complete record.
Reporting the team can act on. Financial statements arrive early enough and clean enough to be used rather than filed.
Controller-level review is part of the engagement. Classification judgment, exception escalation, and account-structure maintenance are ongoing responsibilities, not one-off requests.
AG Accounting has been a consistent and reliable partner since our launch, transforming our month-end close from a delayed, stressful process into a continuous, seamless operation. With their controller-level oversight, our books close on schedule every month with complete accuracy, giving us clean, decision-grade financials we can actually act on.
